The mainland of Malta offers a wide variety of exploration for locals, but also for newcomers to the islands! But let’s not forget the other islands of Gozo and Comino! Take a break from the island city and head over to quieter and greener Gozo. Or, hike around Comino for the day! Emerge yourself in nature.

1. Blue Lagoon
A classic that everyone loves to visit, the Blue Lagoon! This paradise beach has the clearest and cleanest waters, with a striking blue that makes your mouth drool. The perfect destination to enjoy your day under the beating hot sun. Just head over to Comino via ferry and you’ll get there easy peasy.
2. Santa Marija Bay
About a thirty-minute walk from Blue Lagoon, Santa Marija Bay is another beach everyone loves in Comino. It’s known for being safe for kids, and families love to BBQ there. You can also easily hike around Comino, starting from Santa Marija. Amazing views all over the island, this barren island allows you to cut off from regular life and enjoy the simplicity in nature!
3. Cittadella
Head over to Gozo! An easy ferry ride, the Citadella is one of Gozo’s highlights. Built around a thousand years ago, this medieval castle used to be the capital of the island. Used in many wars, the thick, tall buildings were used to protect the residents from foreign invaders. Today, it serves as a historic landmark, full of museums and a beautiful cathedral in the heart of the castle!

4. Dwejra
If you’re into marine life, Dwejra is your go-to place! Dwejra is a special place in the town of San Lawrenz. The Azure Window was located here at Dwejra before it naturally collapsed during a storm about ten years ago. Below what used to be the Azure Window is the Blue Hole. This deep, deep hole in the rock houses so many different marine species! It’s your go-to place for diving for sure. Further away from the parking lot, you can also check out the inland beach, closed off by the rock, with water flowing through this massive cave that leads to the sea. Now, doesn’t that sound cool?
5. Tal-Mixta Cave
In the middle of a field in Nadur, you’ll find a few stairs in the rock that lead to a massive cave which overlooks Ramla Bay. This is Tal-Mixta Cave! With spectacular views, picture yourself eating a typical Gozitan ftira while watching the sun set behind the hills. Magical!
BONUS: After a day of hiking Malta’s stunning trails, there’s nothing better than treating yourself to a fantastic meal at The Eden. Whether you’re craving something casual or a more upscale dining experience, Hangry’s and Amber have got you covered. Both spots are perfect for unwinding and recharging after a day of adventure.

The list could go on! The Maltese Islands offer so much to tourists and locals that this country makes you feel like you never want to leave! Spend time really getting to know Gozo and Comino, you won’t regret it!
